End of a Chapter...

It is with sadness that I post that this is the end of a chapter in the story of the Harritt Elementary Library Media Webage. Due to budget cuts in the district the position of Library Media Technology Teacher no longer exists. The library at Harritt will remain open and staffed with the help of an instructional assistant and volunteers. However, there will no longer be instruction in literacy skills or library skills as well as technology instruction from a certified librarian. This blog will remain open as a symbol of what was once taught at Harritt and what has been lost due to lack of funding for education.

Meet the Staff

My name is Mrs. Wanek, I had the privilege of opening the library at Harritt Elementary in Sept 2003, with the help of several friends and volunteers who assisted in getting the shelves ready. I love what I do here at Harritt and feel blessed that I have been given this opportunity. It is exciting to see what each individual child is capable of learning both in the Library and in the technology piece that is presented. It is exciting to see students get jazzed over an author and really get into reading. I feel very fortunate to work for a wonderful principal and staff. I also know, I have the best Library Media Assistant in the Salem-Keizer District!

I am married, and have two sons, and one cute cockapoo named Bradley. I enjoy scrapbooking, spending time on the computer, and combining those two loves as well as traveling.

My name is Mrs. Burlison, but I’m also known around Harritt as Mrs. B. I came to work in the winter of 2003 when Harritt first opened and have been here ever since. I really enjoy coming to work everyday at Harritt. Working in the Library is a fabulous place to be. I get to see all the students, as well as, do a variety of jobs to keep the Library running and assisting with teaching in the Library and the Computer Lab.

My other duties beyond the Library are working in the Cafeteria, as well as, heading up the submissions to the Art Show for Harritt and I help with the JC Relays each year.

I moved to Oregon from Southern California in 1995, so I am a California girl at heart. My husband’s name is Bruce and I have son Nick who attends Sprague High school. I have 2 stepdaughters and 2 granddaughters and a dog named Jack. When I am not at work I love to shop, be with my family and friends, and I play competitive tennis.
